Current iniatives focus on supply chain,
not the point of use.

International and national initiatives - including the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD), Sproxil, and the US Global Strategic Framework for SSFFC Medical Products - have made real progress securing pharmaceutical supply chains. But these systems share a critical limitation: they protect the route from manufacturer to pharmacy. They cannot detect the counterfeit that is already in the patient's hand and informal channels.
